4th Grade Multiplication Table
- Use the asterisk * to multiply cells.
- Instead of numbers, use cell references; the cell column letter and row number.
- Always begin a formula with the equal = sign.
- When you use the fill handle to fill a formula into adjoining cells, the cell references in the formula change in a relative manner.
- To lock a row or column in place, precede it with a dollar sign $.
The formula entered in cell B2,
=B$1*$A2
will result in the product of cells B1 and A2, but row 1 and column A will be locked so that they will remain constant in the multiplication table when the fill handle is used to calculate the entire multiplication table.
