My name is Paul, and my family is from Ireland.  I lived in Ireland until I was three years old, and then I came on an airplane to the United States.  I now live in Bolinas, California.

I live my culture by playing Irish fiddle music with my family and friends, and by cooking special foods.  I practice the music every evening with my mother and sister, and we perform for our family when we have a holiday with special foods.

Tarea 1:

____  Complete your math shape book.  Write a poetic description of each shape that also uses math words such as parallel, acute, obtuse, and right angle. The shapes to include in your book are:  square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid, equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, scalene triangle.

 

____  Read for 25 minutes or more in a chapter book.

____  Practice the Multiplication Sweep.  (Practice it backwards or in a random order if you are already a Rockstar.)

 

 

Tuesday:

____  Many families have come to California since the beginning of the Gold Rush in 1849.  Interview your parents or family members.  Find out when, why, and how your family came.  Take notes on the tree chart outline paper.

 

____  Write the interview information from your tree chart as an expository paper in cursive.  Include an introduction and a conclusion.

____  Find a picture from a newspaper or magazine.  Cut the picture in half along a line of symmetry and glue the picture on to your paper.  Carefully draw the missing half of your picture.  Label your drawing, “Line of Symmetry”.

Tuesday:

____  Draw a polygon that follows these rules:

It has two lines that are parallel.

There is an acute angle.

There is an obtuse angle.

There is a right angle.

____  Label the parallel lines, acute angle, obtuse angle, and right angle.

Wednesday:

____  Read for 25 minutes or more in a chapter book.

Vocabulary Words

Select 6-10 vocabulary words from your book.  Make a vocabulary word list, and write a definition for each word you chose.  Write the page number for where you found each word.

 

Example:

Restitution (page 124): The act of restoring to the rightful owner something that has been taken away, lost, or surrendered. The act of making good or compensating for loss, damage, or injury.

 

 

Write a paragraph for each question: (Wednesday, questions 1 and 2)  (Thursday, questions 3 and 4).

In this writing test, you will write a story.  Your writing will be scored on how well you:

4)  Use grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization

 

Writing the Story:

Imagine that you suddenly wake up and find yourself a player on your favorite sports team.  Fans are cheering for you.  Tell why they are cheering, and write a story about what happens next.

 

____  Plan your writing with an outline for the beginning, middle, and end.  This can be quick sketch picture boxes with some words.

 

____  Write your story with details and dialogue.  Include a strong beginning and a strong ending.
